Old Downton Lodge - Ludlow

Lovely and beautiful location to attractions like The Tump, that was right at the hotel. It was a local area, a lovely place for me.

Lovely location of the hotel, competent and very friendly staff in an informal manner. Based right by restaurant, the beautiful Old Downton Lodge, and the beautiful market town of Ludlow. High quality breakfast option with locally sourced ingredients and option to mix, for example...

The room was cozy, yet the limited bar selection was disappointing.

Really good Service and Dining Experience

The food was out of this world, especially the creative tasting menu that showcased seasonal ingredients. The staff were attentive and were pretty good too ensure we had a great experience. The only downside was the tricky access route which might be hard to navigate, but once you're there, it's a serene escape.

Perfect for a romantic getaway

The service was semi-formal yet friendly, made it easy to have a laugh with the staff while we enjoyed the exquisite six course tasting menu. One evening, after realizing my partner was vegetarian, they tailored the tasting menu just for her, that sort of attention is rare and so much appreciated.

Sure, it cost a pretty penny, but for what you get, quite acceptable.

Had a fantastic getaway with friends. The area is fine with timbered houses and waymarked trails through beautiful woods. We enjoyed cozy evenings at the lodge and really good meals. Highly recommend the restaurant! Just note it's a bit off the main road, but worth it for the experience.

Our room turned up the heat during one of the hottest weekends, and the fan struggled to keep things cooler. The bar's menu limited, just one choice for draught beer, and the folks behind the counter seemed to lack basic knowledge about their own offerings, like Armagnac. While it's labeled a 'restaurant with rooms,' it lacks some of the full hotel facilities that might be expected given the room rates was good.

Everything about old downton lodge was really good. The room was spacious and very comfy, the staff were all good, and the food was amazin. We stayed for 5 nights and the kitchen never missed a trick, each meal was a masterpiece. The gardens were lovely to sit in with a drink in the evening sunshine.

The hotel's charming, characterful building and beautiful gardens created a serene atmosphere that I found enchanting.

More seating in dining area would be beneficial.

Good Stay with Unsurpassed Cuisine

We recently spent a night in a Superior Double Room, enjoying an very nice 6-course taster menu that set a new standard for fine dining. The peaceful countryside location was perfect for relaxation. Pro tip, be prepared for a warm room in hot weather!

Don't miss the stunning gardens, they're perfect for a quiet stroll after dinner.

What a amazing stay! The dining experience was really good, especially the very nice vegan dishes and good desserts. The tranquil surroundings made for a much-needed escape. Would return!

The superior double room was spacious and tastefully designed. The wine pairing knowledge of the staff was amazing, though the food could be hit or miss. Some dishes lacked the expected quality and presentation for the price. While the location was peaceful, minor disappointments with the dining could be improved.
